Volunteer
We couldn’t operate without the dedication and hard work put in by our amazing team of volunteers. Please see below more information about volunteering opportunities available at Birmingham Central Foodbank. If you are interested in volunteering please get in touch.
Urgent Needs:
Wednesday Bread Collection
We need someone to help with our weekly bread collections. This is an essential role that enables us to provide bread to the individuals and families who visit our Foodbank.
Each week on a Wednesday morning 100 loaves of bread need collecting from Plot 11, Moorcroft Drive, Wednesbury, WS10 7DE, between 8:30am and 10:30am. These can then be dropped off at Birmingham City Church, Parade, B1 3QQ.
The bread needs to be collected each week, but we are developing a rota, so we are looking for people who would be able to commit to collect at least once a month. This role requires a driving license and use of your own vehicle.
Social Media Volunteer
We need someone to join our team to help with our social media presence. This includes practical tasks such as designing and scheduling posts, but also bigger picture ideas like developing our social media strategy.
This role can be done remotely, and in evenings or weekends, but it does require some availability during the working week for catch-up meetings. We have also found that it helps if you are available to attend one of our Foodbank shifts per month, to allow you to get to know our volunteer team, and understand how we operate. We estimate that the time commitment would be 1-4 hours a week.
Regular Volunteer Roles:
(Please note as of February 2026 we are at capacity for some roles, so may not have positions immediately available)
Distribution Shifts:
Our distributions shifts are on a Tuesday and a Friday during the day. Volunteering at one of these shifts involves working with the team to serve clients, make up food parcels, and offer signposting and other support to people.
Stock Shifts:
Our stock shifts are generally on a Thursday morning. Volunteering at one of these shifts involves sorting and dating donated items, unloading deliveries of food, and restocking shelves.
Driving:
Our driving volunteers collect food donations from supermarkets and other food suppliers, and bring them to the Foodbank. This role requires a vehicle and a driving license.
Other Roles:
We are also looking for people with to assist our Foodbank with some behind the scenes tasks. These roles can often be completed remotely and in evenings/weekends, but require more previous experience than our other volunteer opportunities. We are currently recruiting for these positions:
- Fundraising Volunteer
- Graphic Design Volunteer
If you are interested in any of these specialist roles please contact us and we will send you the relevant role description.
